MESSAGE BOARD
The Firm Is Growing
Since the last edition of this newsletter, the firm has grown in quantity and quality. Robin Lau (who many of you know as my long-time secretary), is now my full-time Legal Assistant. Valerya Iskhakova has joined the firm as part-time legal secretary. And Robert Werth, an experienced attorney, has joined Robert Anker as "Of Counsel" to the firm. Not only do we now offer almost 75 years of combined legal experience, we also provide assistance in Cantonese and Russian!
Time Is Running Out
After a year of teaching a monthly seminar on how to buy foreclosed real estate, at The Learning Annex, I have decided to take a break at the end of the year. My final classes are scheduled for September 26, October 21, and November 21. All classes are from 6pm-9pm. If you would like to register for one of these classes, call 212-371-0280.
Congratulations
We can always use good judges, and it gives me great pleasure to congratulate two friends of mine - Arthur Engoron and Ellen Spodek - on their election to the Civil Court of the City of New York. Arthur has been a long-time court attorney for Supreme Court Justice Martin Schoenfeld, and Ellen has been a partner in the law firm of Spodek & Barrett. I know that both of these attorneys will make excellent judges and we will all be proud of them.
Daisy Pope Dies
Daisy Pope passed away recently at the age of 94. Daisy was the subject of a Daily News article (7-2-01) on the plight of the elderly poor, abandoned by their families and left to live out their lives alone in nursing homes. I was mentioned in the article as Daisy's legal guardian, serving without fee at the request of Justice Emily Jane Goodman. It is my hope that legislation will soon pass to provide nominal fees to guardians so that more will serve in this vital role.

Need a Speaker?
As a member of the Law-Related Education Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association (Chaired by Justice Richard Lee Price, New York State Supreme Court), I often speak about law and the legal system to groups throughout the city. I am available to speak to your school, company or organization and would be happy to do so. Just call, write, or send an e-mail to me at the address or phone number listed on this newsletter.
FLEXIBLE FEES
Generally, law firms offer three different kinds of fee arrangements:
My flexible fee policy includes these traditional fee arrangements while allowing clients to work out alternative fee and payment plans wherever possible.
