Welcome to the first edition of " The Letter of the Law " a periodic newsletter for clients and friends of Bruce Feffer, Attorney At Law . The most common question I am asked when people find out I am a lawyer is, " What kind of law do you do? " In these days of HMO's and increasing specialization, it is almost assumed that I have limited myself to one area of the law. Yet, in over 15 years as a lawyer, I have found that most people do not want a separate lawyer for every matter, but prefer one reliable attorney who will answer questions honestly, give good advice, be an effective advocate, and get results. A college professor of mine once said, "A specialist is someone who knows more and more about less and less until he knows everything about nothing at all." I guess I took that statement to heart. Representing many different kinds of clients - from small businesses to international corporations; from individuals to large associations - has given me the ability to serve each client in many ways. This newsletter is about what I do. Let me know how I can help you. -Bruce Feffer Happenings I am pleased to report my recent victory in federal court on behalf of a client suing the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for age discrimination . The plaintiff (my client) was fired by the Port Authority after 23 exemplary years of service at the age of 58. Despite the PA's claim that this was merely the result of routine "downsizing", the jury agreed with the plaintiff that he was discriminated against based on his age. The jury awarded plaintiff $153,000 in damages, and the judge ordered the PA to reinstate him to his job. A brand new condominium development for moderate income families has just been completed on the Lower East Side. As the attorney for the sponsor, I was responsible for preparing the Offering Plan and obtaining approval of the project from the Attorney General. This fall, the first of the 48 families is expected to move in. As reported in the New York Post, and various television news programs in 1996, a New York City high school teacher was fired from her job based on her political beliefs. I represented the teacher in her federal civil rights lawsuit and I am happy to report that the case has been settled and she has her job back. She continues to be a popular and successful educator.
